Explanation of MUNHN

Model United Nations Heilbronn, or MUNHN for short, is a political business game for students of 14 years and older and young university students, in which the participants simulate a conference of the United Nations (UN).

The conference will take place from March 27-29, 2020 in Heilbronn. You will receive more information in good time before the conference.

The delegates of a delegation (2-4 people) then take part in the simulated committees (GA, HRC, SC) for their country. Each delegation from a country sends one delegate to each committee in which it is represented. There, the delegates are debating current issues with the aim of adopting a UN resolution on the issue discussed in the committee.

The 200 participants from all over the world experience a conference in these roles, just as it takes place in New York: the framework for the debates is laid down in the rules of procedure and the charter and the customs (diplomatic code) of the United Nations are valid.

The idea

This conference is a project by students made for students, and that's what makes it so special.
The motto of the MUNHN 2020 conference this year is:

Crises, protection and opportunities.

MUNHN pursues the goal of further training outside of class, without any boring class atmosphere! In line with the principle of learning by doing, you get a first-hand, practical insight into international politics.

During the three days of the simulation, participants are given the opportunity to experience and help shape global politics. The complexity of international politics is reduced and made accessible to teenagers and young adults. In addition, skills and competences will be learned during the conference, which are not only important in everyday school or university life, but also far beyond. Effective and orderly discussion and debate, explaining your own positions and negotiating compromises. The experience that you sometimes represent opinions and interests that do not necessarily match your personal one, also promotes your open-mindedness towards other cultures, opinions and ways of thinking.

Of course, the conference should not only be used to learn and talk about politics, it will also give you the opportunity to make new friends, as the participants meet teenagers and young adults with the same interests. Even outside of the role at the conference, MUNHN offers the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas with like-minded people on global issues such as human rights, peace, security and climate protection.

The participants should learn not to simply accept current problems worldwide, but to actively and committedly contribute to their solution. At MUNHN, teenagers and young adults learn important skills in a playful way in order to shape the future in a cosmopolitan, human and reflective manner. MUNHN's aim is to make the participating teenagers and young adults part of the democratic process.
